Flying Fish
|≤ <<< Monday, March 6, 2017 >>> ≥|
Though we had requested the high bar, it was full, so we got the low bar, normally reserved for wheelchair folks. Bill and Chris shared serving duties for the evening. Flying Fish experienced a multi-month renovation last year and only reopened in the fall. This is our first visit since the renovation. Stig, the former proprietor, promised significant changes and we were pleased with the results. No longer displaying a 1950's Atlantic City motif, Flying Fish has grown up. I started with a Maker's Mark Manhattan (11) and Lew had a Beefeater Martini (9.25). We split A Tour of the Coast (19) with grouper cheek, icy blue mussels, local clams, mile zero shrimp and celeriac puree. We declined the bread basket, but Bill over-ruled noting the rich lobster sauce in the appetizer. The Big Thunder Specials and potato wrapped snapper of old are gone and have been replaced by sustainable fish. Tonight's choice was a black grouper or monkfish (44), and I selected the latter, grilled, and served over a vegetable mélange with a savory potato beurre blanc. Lew picked the Maine Lobster Nero Pasta (59) in a golden tomato sauce, young artichokes and fennel pollen. For dessert, I enjoyed the Florida Reef (9) of a lemon tart, toasted meringue, Florida Citrus Salad, and Ruby Red Grapefruit Sorbet. At my request Bill made an Irish Coffee (9.50) for Lew. We took the elevator back up to the Boardwalk Hotel and a cab back to Bay Lake Tower.
