WALNUT CAKE 20130821

Ingredients:
1 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup shortening
3 cups sugar
5 eggs
3 cups flour
1 t salt
1/2 t baking powder
1/2 t ground cinnamon
1 cup milk
1/2 t vanilla
2 cups chopped black walnuts
Procedures:
Preheat the oven to 325o
Grease and flour a tube pan
Cream butter, shortening and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs, one at a time and mix until yellow disappears.
Combine flour, salt, baking powder and cinnamon. Stir into the creamed mixture, alternately with the milk. Stir in vanilla and nuts.
Bake 1 hour, 30 min. Test with toothpick. Cool in pan 15 minutes. Remove from pan and cool completely.
Notes:
2015-12-10: an excellent cake for Christmas.
2013-12-12: Made for the Christmas Holidays.
2013-08-21: Made for a trip to Wyomissing, we returned the sugar to 3 cups.
2012-10-22: Our first effort was good. We cut the sugar from 3 cups to 2.
2012-10-19: Added to the cookbook.
