LAWS' CHRISTMAS BREAKFAST - WELSH VARIATION
This breakfast has been celebrated on Christmas morning by the Laws family for three generations. Victor Laws tells the story in his book Maude and Other Family Legends (1990). It is excerpted here. Different branches of the family have different variations. This one is celebrated with Tom and Lydia and Lydia's mother, Margaret Engle. She described it for the camera here.
Ingredients:
Bourbon & Whiskey Sour Mix
Eggs
Whole-Hog Sausage
Scrapple
Corn Bread, Elaine's
Sharp Cheddar Cheese
Procedures:
Combine the bourbon and whiskey sour mix to produce whiskey sours. [This is the "dram"].
Scramble eggs.
Prepared the sausage and scrapple by package directions.
Prepare corn bread by package directions
Slice the cheese
Plate the breakfast
The senior family member present tells the story.
Notes:
2023-12-25: With Ann & Santo, and SKDL in attendance, we served the breakfast casserole, scrapple, the cake that was really bread, sours, juice and cheese
2022-12-25: Two kinds of corn bread accompanied the rest of the standards ingredients with SKDL.
2021-12-26: With no sausage Pattie’s, we substituted sausage “strips” that failed. Served to the 6 of us.
2020-12-25: Covid-19 restricted the breakfast to just 6.
